Sunday 3 July 2016: Geological walking tour, flat excursion, observation of the new golden eagles' eyrie
From the morning to the late afternoon three guided events are offered to enjoy the beauty of the Reserve.
In the morning an easy geologic walking tour with a guide up Monte Pietralata will reveal the history of the Gola del Furlo by observing the rocks’ stratigraphic succession from enjoyable panoramic spots. In fact, thanks to their sequence of layered sedimentary rocks the mountains comprising the Reserve are considered a geological atlas by which it is possible to observe the geological eras since 200 millions years ago. The appointment will be at 9.30 at the Visitor Centre of the Natural Reserve Gola del Furlo in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36. The guided tour will continue with a visit to the Lorenzo Mannozzi Torini Territorial Museum where a large collection of stuffed animals, rocks and fossils is hosted. In the museum interactive software leads visitors millions of years back in an exciting journey to discover the geological and anthropological history of the Gola del Furlo.
In the afternoon there will be the possibility to choose between “Tra le meraviglie della Gola”, the guided walk taking place every Sunday to discover the marvels of nature in the Gola del Furlo, and a special event dedicated to the observation of the new eyrie built by the couple of golden eagles living in the Reserve.
The guided walk “Tra le meraviglie della Gola” starts at 15.30 from the Visitor Centre of the Natural Reserve Gola del Furlo in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36. A naturalist guide will explain the sorts of plants and flowers and talk about the wild animals and birds of prey, such as the golden eagle, which can be observed in the natural reserve. It will be possible to admire also the two tunnels bored by the Romans along the via Flaminia, the grand road built during the III century b. C. to connect Rome to Rimini. The route of the excursion will be flat and accessible to everybody. Length of the walk: about 6 kms round trip.
The guided observation of the new eyrie built by the golden eagles will take place at the same time. Meet at 15.00 at the Grotta del Grano, on the via Flaminia, easy to be reached on foot or by bicycle from the village of Furlo and from the littale parking area near the dam.
