Sunday 24 July 2016: Guided walks in the Reserve to explore nature and to learn about its wildlife

In the morning guests will have the opportunity to explore the Reserve by the guided walk “Tra le meraviglie della Gola”. Meet at 9.30 at the visitor centre of the Natural Reserve of Gola del Furlo in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36. A naturalist guide will explain the sorts of plants and flowers and talk about the wild animals and birds of prey, such as the golden eagle, which can be observed in the natural reserve. It will be possible to admire also the two tunnels bored by the Romans along the via Flaminia, the grand road built during the III century B.C. to connect Rome to Rimini. The route of the excursion will be flat and accessible to everybody. Length of the walk: about 6 kms round trip.

In the late afternoon the guided walk “Gli animali del Furlo” will take visitors to discover the Reserve’s abundant wildlife. Visitors will be lead to recognize birds songs, tracks and sounds revealing the presence of various species. A naturalist guide will explain why the golden eagles’ pair nesting on Monte Paganuccio, peregrin falcons and wolves found their habitat in the Gola del Furlo. Their pysical characteristics and behaviours will be explained too. It is recommended to bring binoculars or a telescope to admire crag martins hovering over the gorge. The hope is to see also the eaglet’s first attempts to fly out of the nest. At the end of the walk it will be possible to observe cormorants flying back to their dormitories at sunset. Meet at 17.30 at the visitor centre of the Natural Reserve of Gola del Furlo in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36. Length of the walk: about 4 kms round trip.
