Sunday 16 July 2017: Archaeological walk and playful activities for children at the refuge
An archaeological walk in the morning and playful activities for children in the afternoon at the refuge Ca’ I Fabbri are the free opportunities to help visitors enjoy the Reserve on Sunday 16.
Guided archaeological walk. Meet at 9.30am at the visitor centre in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36 to explore the great Roman remains along the Gola del Furlo. A guide will led to admire the two Roman tunnels and other imprints of the Roman past along the Via Flaminia, the grand road built by the consul Caio Flaminio in the III century B.C. to connect Rome to Rimini passing through the Gola del Furlo. The route of the walks will be flat and accessible to everybody.
Playful activities for children at the refuge Ca’ I Fabbri. Families with children can profit by “Furlo Family”, a rich programme of games and a guided walk to discover the wood on Monte Pietralata’s plateau. Meet at 3pm at the nature reserve visitor centre in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36. Families will reach by their own cars the refuge Ca’ I Fabbri where the event takes place.

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July 2017: Free guided walk at sunset and visits to the nature museum
The free guided walk “Emozioni al tramonto” to admire the Reserve’s stunning landscape from Monte Pietralata at sunset is in programme on Saturday. Meet at 4.45pm at the Gola del Furlo Nature Reserve visitor centre in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36. Free admission. The walk will be accessible to disabled people as the route to the panoramic spot on the mountain will be on the asphalt road to Monte Pietralata. No guided walks will take place on Sunday. But everybody can always hike on their own thanks to the Reserve’s great network of trails. Hikes in the Reserve are free and vary from short trolls in the area of the Roman tunnels and of the Romanesque abbey of San Vincenzo to harder walks to Monte Paganuccio and Monte Pietralata from where it is possible to enjoy fabulous sights over the Apennines. Guests can also profit by maps and information provided by the Nature Reserve visitor centre in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36. On Saturday and Sunday opening times in the morning from 9am to 1pm and in the afternoon from 2pm to 6pm. Free entrance.

The museum hosts a large collection of stuffed animals, rocks and fossils. Interactive software transports visitors back millions of years on a journey to discover Gola del Furlo’s geological and anthropological history. An observation system has been established to allow visitors to see the eyrie of the golden eagle, built on the crags of Monte Paganuccio. Free entrance.

Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 July 2017: Free guided walks to discover the Nature Reserve
Free guided walks will take place during the week-end to visit the Gola del Furlo Nature Reserve.
The first event will be “Una notte bestiale”, an easy guided walk along the river’s banks starting on Saturday at 7.30pm to know sounds of animals and birds at sunset. Visitors are required to bring an electric torch. Meet at the Nature Reserve tourist office in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36, where it will be possible to visit also the renewed Lorenzo Mannozzi-Torini nature museum. A guide will explain the sorts of plants and flowers and talk about the wild animals and birds of prey, such as the golden eagle, which can be observed in the protected area. It will be possible to admire also the two tunnels bored by the Romans along the consular via Flaminia. In fact the road via Flaminia, built by the consul Caio Flaminio in the III century B.C. to connect Rome to Rimini, passes through the Gola del Furlo.

Playful activities for children. The event “Furlo Family” will be for families with children. Saturday 10 June: Readings and party for children. The first event will be for families with children from 4 to 10 years old. Meet on Saturday at 3.30pm in the nature reserve visitor centre in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36 to have fun with “Furlo in fiaba”, a programme of readings, plays, creative workshops based on fables. Children will be also offered a party. Families will have the opportunity to visit the Lorenzo Mannozzi Torini nature museum.

Visits to the nature museum and hikes in the Reserve by the free audioguides
After a great 2016 when the Gola del Furlo Nature Reserve was awarded by EU with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, guided visits and events in the Reserve have been suspended for the winter. Outdoor activities organized by the Reserve will restart in March. As in the past years, visitors will find up-to-date information about events in the Reserve on this website.
Before that, the Reserve can also be enjoyed in January, February and March. In the winter months hiking enthusiasts can take advantage of the not rare good weather conditions to explore the protected area by visiting the Lorenzo Mannozzi Torini nature museum in the village of Furlo, and by using a free audioguide or maps provided by the Reserve’s visitor centre for a hike across the network of trails leading to scenic spots on Monte Pietralata and Monte Paganuccio. Walks are free and vary from flat short strolls in the archaeological area to harder hikes to the mountain summits from where it is possible to enjoy grandiose sights over the Apennines. Guests can also profit by the free audioguides provided by the Visitor Centre of the Natural Reserve, situated in the village of Furlo di Acqualagna, via Flaminia n.36. The visitor centre is open on Saturday and Sunday from 9.00 to 13.00 and from 14.00 to 17.00. Audioguides are available in English as well as maps and guides detailing routes and day hikes. At the Visitor Centre it is also possible to visit the Lorenzo Mannozzi Torini nature museum, unmissable for those who want to know nature and protected species living in the Reserve. The museum hosts a large collection of stuffed animals, like wolves, fallow-deers, birds of prey, and sections dedicated to rocks and fossils. An interactive software leads visitors millions of years back to discover the geological and anthropological history of the Gola del Furlo. An observation system has been appointed to show from the museum the golden eagles’ eyries built on the crags in Monte Paganuccio.
